A dialogue was held in the Jogorku Kenesh: “Women’s Leadership: Breakthrough to a New Era”

The Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic recently hosted an important dialogue entitled “Women’s Leadership: Breakthrough to a New Era”, initiated by the Jogorku Kenesh with the support of the Council on Women’s Rights, Children’s Rights and Gender Equality under the Thorag of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The event brought together members of the Jogorku Kenesh led by Deputy Toraga Jamilei Isaeva, as well as representatives of government agencies, international and civil society organisations, development partners and women leaders from various spheres and sectors.

Participants discussed a wide range of issues related to promoting women’s leadership, combating violence and discrimination against women and children, and strengthening the role of women in public and political life.

During the discussion, deputy Mirgul Temirbaeva raised important issues facing women in Batken province, including the increase in women in migration and the increasing number of suicides among them. She suggested the establishment of crisis and rehabilitation centres in each district to address these problems.

Antje Grave, UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan, expressed the importance of promoting women’s leadership and women’s participation in decision-making on priority development issues in the country in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

As part of the event in the Jogorku Kenesh, women were presented with deserved certificates and letters of appreciation, among them Zulfiya Kochorbaeva, director of the Social Technologies Agency and co-coordinator of the Alliance of Women’s Legislative Initiatives.
