An informational and consultative meeting on the specifics of protecting the rights of women and girls with disabilities was held in Jalal-Abad.

On October 29, 2024, in the city of Jalal-Abad, the “Kyrgyz Association of Women Judges” NGO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, Social Development, and Migration, held an informational and consultative meeting on the topic: “Specifics of Protecting the Rights of Women and Girls with Disabilities who Have Experienced Violence.” This event was part of the “InKoom – Promoting the Development of a Fair and Inclusive Society in Kyrgyzstan” project, implemented with financial support from the European Union.

During the meeting, participants received information on protecting the rights of women with disabilities, with a focus on reducing gender-based violence. The session was designed for professionals, including lawyers, employees of the prosecutor’s office, law enforcement, local government, municipal employees, social workers, and human rights organizations working to protect the rights of women with disabilities.

At the informational and consultative meeting, participants discussed several important topics, including criminal and civil proceedings on cases of domestic violence and ethical aspects of interaction with people with disabilities. It was emphasized that ethical issues in communicating with individuals with disabilities often go unnoticed, and many attendees found themselves reflecting on these critical nuances for the first time.

In closing, participants highlighted the unique complexity and latent nature of cases involving the rights of girls and women with disabilities. There was a shared opinion that such cases are difficult to uncover and bring to justice, requiring additional attention and collaborative efforts to ensure proper support and protection for these vulnerable groups.
