On June 8, 2024, regional consultations were held in the city of Karakol, Issyk-Kul region, to discuss proposals for amendments to the Kyrgyz Republic Law “On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women.” The implementation of the proposed changes to the law could have a positive impact on the gender situation in the country. A similar event was previously organized in Talas.
The event was attended by the Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kamila Talieva, Acting Minister of Labor, Zhyldyz Polotova (who participated via videoconference), Deputy Presidential Representative in the Issyk-Kul region, Ainura Sultanbaeva, representatives of local government bodies, and public organizations from the Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions.
During the meeting, Deputy Kamila Talieva spoke about the goals and significance of the Project and the proposed amendments to the Kyrgyz Republic Law “On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women.” She highlighted that in the Kyrgyz Republic, achieving gender equality is recognized as one of the key development goals. “The foundations of gender equality are outlined in the Law and in the National Development Strategy of the country until 2040. On May 7, 2024, a Presidential Decree approved the State Program for Supporting Women’s Leadership until 2030, which also includes the development and implementation of special measures to ensure women’s representation in leadership positions within government bodies, including through amendments to the legislation,” said Kamila Talieva.
Regional leaders, deputies of local councils, women leaders, and residents of the Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions contributed their proposals and recommendations to the Kyrgyz Republic Law “On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women.”
Additionally, the participants were informed about the implementation of state policy in the field of gender equality.
A similar event was previously organized in Talas, where recommendations and proposals were collected. Next in line are other regions and the National Conference in Bishkek.
