March 26, 2025 in Bishkek summarized the results of the project “InKoom – To promote fair and inclusive society in Kyrgyzstan”, implemented by PA “Agency for Social Technologies” with the financial support of the European Union.
The project ran from October 2022 to March 2025 and aimed to help reduce violence and discrimination against women, youth and children, especially people with disabilities. The focus was on supporting inclusive approaches, developing gender-sensitive journalism, and strengthening the capacity of government agencies and civil society.
Representatives of government agencies, civil society, international organizations, as well as authors and implementers of individual project components spoke at the final conference of the project. In particular, the results of sub-grants on expanding the economic rights of women with disabilities, responding to gender discrimination, and promoting gender-sensitive journalism were presented.
Key achievements:
- Trained over 900 government staff and NGO representatives on protecting the rights of women and girls with disabilities;
- More than 300 journalists trained on inclusive and gender-sensitive journalism;
- More than 30 information and education products developed, including videos, publications and guidance materials;
- Conducted three national studies on gender, media and inclusion;
- 120 women and girls with disabilities received vocational training, 30 of whom are already employed;
- A digital application InKoom was created to monitor media content from a human rights and inclusion perspective;
- Formed the InKoom expert community – a platform for journalists, human rights defenders and activists;
More than 90 events, including trainings, roundtables, conferences and campaigns were organized; - The total number of participants involved exceeded 4,500, including 3,248 women and 1,700 young people.
In her speech, the Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyyal Zhanuzakova, expressed her gratitude to the representatives of the European Union for their support and emphasized that such projects make a significant contribution to achieving the priorities outlined in the National Development Strategy until 2040.
The project also provided expert and technical support to the process of discussion and development of the draft National Action Plan for Gender Equality 2025-2027; organization of the Online Women’s Leadership Academy, regional and national consultations on improving legislation on gender equality.
“The InKoom project has shown how important cooperation between the state, civil society, media and international partners is for the sustainable promotion of gender and social equality,” the organizers said during the final conference.
